Static Wedge Wire Screens

Installed in smaller wastewater treatment plants and industrial applications, static wedge wire screens usually have a clear opening of 0.2 to 1.2 mm or (0.01 to 0.06 in [metric system conversion]). The designed flowrates for static wedge wire screens range between 400 to 1200 L/m2-min or (10 to 30 gal/ft2-min) of the screening area.

This screen is comprised of a small stainless-steel wedge shaped bars that have a flat part facing the direction of the flow. There are several drawbacks to wedge wire screen.

For instance, the headloss through the screen ranges between 1.1 to 2 m or (4 to 7ft), which can be considered substaintial. This type of screen also requires an appreciable floor space for installation and must be cleaned frequently with high pressure hot water to avoid grease buildup.
